Starting up a program from scratch is not something every student-athlete that attends a college gets the opportunity to do. In my case, I was one of the very few young men that came across the chance and took full advantage of it. After playing 3 years at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco (2008-2011), I am now pursuing my career on the other side of the game, coaching. This season I am Graduate Assistant at the Academy of Art where the program continues to build blocks for the future. As a player, I lead the team in scoring the first two seasons of existence, secondly I was offered by Head Coach Mark Sembrowich to return for my final year of schooling (since my eligibility ran out), and really set the table for what a Graduate Assistant is supposed to do. I was beyond honored since basketball is my love and passion, and when he asked the question it was a simple no brainer, YES! My father, Tony Samuel is a Head Football coach in the OVC conference, and I plan to follow his footsteps, but on the hardwood rather than the grass.
